AI Makes Baby, Schools Embrace Tech, Companies Rehire Humans

Smart Tech, Stronger Bonds: Real-World AI Wins for Families This Week

Guess whose family got bigger this week thanks to AI? (Noooo!!! Not mine. LOL!) In a groundbreaking moment, the world welcomed its first baby conceived through fully AI-assisted IVF. Meanwhile, some businesses that rushed to replace humans with AI are backpedaling fast. Let's talk tech that brings us together, not apart.

TRENDING IN THE DIGITAL PARENTING WORLD:

1. First AI-Conceived Baby Born Through Remote IVF

Baby Luis made history this week as the first child born from an embryo created through AI-controlled robotic IVF. His parents, Edna and Tony, had been told pregnancy was impossible due to ovarian insufficiency. But AI-powered precision robotics at Conceivable Life Sciences made their dream come true with a 51% success rate, matching industry standards. 2. Pearl River Schools Let Students Shape AI Guidelines

Rather than ban AI tools outright, this New York school district formed a committee including students, parents, and teachers to create practical guidelines. Their approach starts with "students will explore" because they found half of students already use AI for schoolwork. The district partnered with SchoolAI to integrate AI across subjects, from third-grade fairytale interactions to AP calculus tutoring. 3. Companies That Rushed to Replace Humans with AI Now Rehiring

A recent Gartner survey found 50% of businesses are abandoning plans to cut customer service staff with AI by 2027. Finance startup Klarna, which cut 22% of its workforce for AI replacements, launched a "recruitment drive" in May to bring humans back. According to tech critic Ed Zitron, many so-called AI "agents" are just "trumped-up automations that require enterprise customers to invest time programming them." THIS WEEK'S POWER MOVE:

Looking for ways to give your kids a break from screens this summer? Try using AI to create offline activities instead. This weekend, I asked ChatGPT to design a nature scavenger hunt for my 7-year-old daughter. She spent three hours outside with a printed checklist finding everything from "a rock shaped like Michigan" to "something that reminds you of Grandma's house." The cat photos she took of Anna and Elsa snoozing in sunbeams won her extra points. My 2-year-old just wanted to eat dirt, but at least we were all outside!

Smart glasses that let you stay present with your kids while still connected? Yes please. I just got some and they definitely can help reduce screen time and phone interactions (If you know how to use them, or upgrade them with custom automations.)

BONUS: FAMILY AI CHALLENGE

This week, try a "Tech Translation" game where each family member gets to interview an AI tool about something they're curious about, then has to explain what they learned to everyone else—but using only drawings, charades, or storytelling. No tech allowed during the explanation! My 7-year-old asked ChatGPT about how clouds make rain, then acted it out with cotton balls and a spray bottle. Hilarious AND educational.
