How Parents Are Using AI to Plan Smart, Screen-Savvy Summers
Happy Monday!
Last week I watched my 7-year-old figure out how to get Google Home to plan her entire day (including "ask my sister if she wants to play" at 7:30 AM). Summer break officially started for our oldest last Friday, and the AI requests have already begun.
Which got me thinking: we're at this weird intersection where AI security experts are warning parents about risks while kids are naturally gravitating toward these tools. What if we stopped fighting it and started guiding it?
TRENDING IN THE DIGITAL PARENTING WORLD:
• New study reveals AI's blind spot with children: Research focusing on kids aged 8-12 in the UK shows gaps in how AI systems handle young users, raising concerns about safety and regulation. [Source: Forbes June 7, 2025]
• AI security risks at work can impact your family at home: Nearly 40% of professionals are sharing sensitive work data—sometimes including family or personal information—with AI platforms that may not be secure or approved by their employer. This “shadow AI” trend means that details about your family could be exposed if you use AI tools at work or on shared devices. Parents should be mindful of what information is shared with AI and ensure that family data stays protected. [Source: Information Matters Jan 29, 2025]

THIS WEEK'S POWER MOVE:
Summer camps are expensive. Summer boredom is real. Here's how to use AI as your co-pilot for an engaging summer without breaking the bank:
Activity Generator: Ask ChatGPT to create a week of activities using items you already have. "Create 5 science experiments using household items for a curious 7-year-old."
Learning Disguised as Fun: Use AI to turn everyday moments into mini-lessons. "Help me explain why ice melts using a story about penguins."
Routine Builder: Let AI help create flexible summer schedules that balance screen time, outdoor play, and family connection.
FEATURED IN EVERYDAY AI VIBE MAGAZINE:
This week's main feature is close to my heart: "AI for Neurodiverse Kids: Practical Ways AI Supports Children with ADHD, Autism, and Learning Differences." It's amazing to see how AI tools are creating personalized paths for kids who think differently. The article dives into specific apps and strategies that are actually working for families.

P.S. Anna, our cat, has figured out how to trigger our motion sensors at 3 AM. AI can help with parenting, but apparently not with cat management.
